New Zealand's World Cup lineup: no current NBA players on the roster

The Westland Basketball Association has announced its 12-man roster for the 2023 Men's Basketball World Cup. The roster does not include any current NBA players, the first time this has happened in New Zealand since 1970.

The list, led by head coach Peter Webb, includes two players who play in overseas leagues: Jason Holder in the Greek league and Matt Johnston in the German league. The other 10 players play in New Zealand's domestic leagues.

Westland is included in Group A of the 2023 World Cup along with the United States, Czech Republic and Uruguay. Webster said he hoped the team would do well at the World Cup, but he also acknowledged that Westland would face a big challenge.

Here is the 12-man roster for the Westland team:

Jason Holder (R)
Matt Johnston (Rangers)
Daniel Armstrong (D)
Scott Bowen (Rangers)
Michael Collins (Michael Collins)
Matt Fox (Matt Fox)
Jordan Harrison (Jordon Harrison)
Jack McMahon (Jack McMahon)
Josh Morgan (Josh Morgan)
Michael Robberson (Michael Robertson)
Ben Scott
Kyle Strickland (Kyle Strickland)
The announcement of this list has caused some controversy. Some believe that New Zealand will struggle to do well in the World Cup due to the lack of support from NBA players. On the other hand, there are those who believe that Webster has chosen the best lineup for the team, and that the New Zealand team is young and energetic, and has a chance to make a breakthrough in the World Cup.
